The Flashlight Fund provides access to free counselling for children, young people and whānau facing tough times, who otherwise couldn’t afford it.
Skylight offer counselling for children, young people, whānau and individuals who are experiencing any kind of grief, loss and trauma. Counselling can help them find their way through difficult situations, build up their emotional resilience, and move forward with hope.
Although our counselling is partly funded through grants, fundraising and donations, there is still a cost for the service. Other funding streams may contribute to the cost for people who are eligible. The Flashlight Fund can pay for four counselling sessions for people who can’t afford it themselves.
Accessing the Flashlight Fund
If you or someone you know is going through a difficult time and counselling may be useful, but you’re not sure if you/they can afford it, the Flashlight Fund may be able to help.

How did the Flashlight Fund get started?
During a particularly difficult time Jeni Bryant came to Skylight for counselling. She is hugely grateful for the support she received and for helping her get through some very tough times.
Because of her positive experience, Jeni wanted to give something back to Skylight to help with our important work. A large donation from Jeni allowed the Flashlight Fund to be set up to pay for counselling for those who cannot afford it.
Keeping the Flashlight Fund going
Jeni would like the Flashlight Fund to keep going long into the future so that children, young people and whānau facing tough times can access free counselling at Skylight.
A generous bequest that was made to the Flashlight Fund by the Disblair Charitable Trust, ongoing fundraising, grants and donations make sure it continues to make a difference to people who are experiencing grief, loss and trauma.
How you can help
Like Jeni, Skylight wants the Flashlight Fund to keep going long into the future so that we can provide free counselling to children, young people, whānau and individuals facing tough times and help them build resilience and move forward with hope.
People who have been able to get counselling because of the Flashlight Fund always tell us how grateful they are for the help they’ve had.
Please donate today to help us provide access to free counselling for those who cannot afford it. Thank you.
